What is a shoe midsole?

Midsole

The midsole sits between the outsole and the foot and provides cushioning, support and energy return. It is usually EVA, phylon, PU or TPU, and is where a shoe’s comfort and ride are tuned.

The midsole absorbs impact and shapes the ride — soft and plush or firm and responsive — through material density and geometry, sometimes with TPU plates or air/gel units.

It is the main lever for comfort in athletic and casual footwear.

DOING tunes midsole material and geometry for each category and tests compression set and rebound so cushioning lasts.
