What is a rubber outsole?

Rubber outsole

A rubber outsole is made from natural or synthetic rubber and offers the best traction and abrasion resistance of common outsole materials. It is heavier than EVA or TPR but far more durable — used for outdoor, dress, work and vulcanized shoes.

Rubber grips well on wet and dry surfaces and resists wear, making it the choice for hiking, work, dress and court soles. It can be solid, blown (lighter) or carbon-reinforced for extra durability.

Its trade-off is weight and cost versus EVA and TPR.

DOING develops custom rubber outsole tooling and tests DIN abrasion, hardness and bond strength.
